Born in Bonyansiaga, Nyangoso in Bobasi in present-day Kisii County in Kenya, he went to Nyangusu and Bonyancha primary schools, and Nyangusu and Nyamesocho secondary schools. He later joined Riokindo Boys High School for A-Levels prior to joining Maseno University College, then a constituent college of Moi University. He later studied at Southeastern University, SEU (UK) for M.Phil. and PhD.
Dr. Tinega has taught in secondary schools including Kiagware, Mosora, Itierio Boys, and Mosisa in Kisii County. He is an associate member of faculty and Mount Kenya University, part time lecturer at both Kisii University and University of Kabianga.
Apart from this memoir, Dr. Tinega has authored a number of articles in academic journals as well as Guidance and Counselling: A Handbook for Teachers and Students (Nsemia Inc., 2021).
