Stanley Gazemba was born in Vihiga, Western Kenya in 1974. He is the author of The Stone Hills of Maragoli (winner of the 2003 Jomo Kenyatta
Prize for Literature) that has been described by the African Review of Books as ‘…a book to watch in the century.’ He is also the author of Ghettoboy, which has been shortlistedfor the Kwani?, for Manuscript Prize. He has also written several books for children and young adults.

Trained as a journalist, he has written for Sunday Nation, Saturday Nation, The East African and The New York Times. He is currently working as a regional editor with Music in Africa. His fiction has appeared in several anthologies. He lives in Nairobi. Callused Hands is his first publication withNsemia Inc. Publishers.
