Prof. Henry M. Bwisa was born 58 years ago in the village of Lutonyi in Kimilili location of present-day Bungoma County. He went to Kimilili primary school before ending up at Friends School Kamusinga where he did both his O and A levels. In 1977 he received a government scholarship to study enterprise development in the then Soviet Union.
Prof. Bwisa has taught at primary, secondary, college and university levels. In 1992 he chaired a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Committee which institutionalized entrepreneurship education in Kenya making it the first university in the region to introduce entrepreneurship education at university level. He has served the country in various capacities including chairing the Kenya Invest Authority and is a member of several local and international bodies.
Prof. Bwisa has extensively researched in and published on entrepreneurship. His 2011 publication – Entrepreneurship theory and practice – a Kenyan perspective – is the first locally authored textbook of entrepreneurship in Kenya.
