Jim Asudi’s Leg Power: Victor Wanyama was listed under SDG 1 – No Poverty while Chris Okemwa’s Sabina the Rain Girl and PGN Mbugwa’s Chokora! A Kenyan Scavenger were listed under SDG 2 – No Hunger.
The African SDG Book Club is an initiative spearheaded by the United Nations Sustainable Goals Development Programme and the International Publishers Association. The object, in part, is to raise awareness of sustainable development through reading.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Book Club was launched at the children’s book fair held in Bologna in 2019. It aims at encouraging children between the ages of 6-12 years to interact with matters of sustainable development, specifically the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be achieved through a list of books related to the 17 SDGs in all six official UN languages – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.
The African SDG Book Club included books in Kiswahili, perhaps considering that the language is widely used in Africa.
As a publisher, we will continue to publish works, regardless of form, that speak to issues affecting humanity.
