Njoki Nathani Wane, Ph.D. is a Professor at the University of Toronto is the current Special Advisor for Gender Issues and the Director for the Centre for Integrative Anti-Racist Research Studies (CIARS).  She was also the first director for the Office of Teaching Support (OTSO) at OISE/UT. She has been teaching in the Department of Humanities, Social Science, Social Justice Education (formerly Sociology of Equity Studies) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, since 1998.  In 2009, she was one of the TVO Nominee for Best Lecturer, while in 2008 she received Harry Jerome Professional Excellence Award and in 2007 she won the African Women Achievement Award.  For the last twenty years she has been researching, writing and teaching in the areas of Black feminisms in Canada & Africa, African indigenous knowledges, African women and spirituality.

For the last twenty years she has been researching, writing and teaching in the areas of Black feminisms in Canada, African feminisms, African indigenous knowledges, anti-racist education in teacher education, African women and spirituality, and ethno-medicine. She has published widely in journals and anthologies in the areas of African women and indigenous knowledge, Black Canadian feminisms; African women and spirituality, anti-colonial thought and ethno-medicine. Her co-edited books include Spirituality, Education & Society: An Integrated Approach (with Energy Manyimo & Eric Ritskes) and The Politics of Cultural Knowledge (with Arlo Kempf and Marlon Simmons) both published by Sense Publications in 2011; Theorizing Empowerment: Canadian Perspectives on Black Feminist Thought (with N. Massaquoi), was published by Inanna Publications in 2007.
